Slow Food International promotes good, clean and fair food.  The food we eat should taste good; it should be produced in a clean way that does not harm the environment, animal welfare or our health; food producers should receive fair compensation for their work and food consumers should be charged a fair price.  To achieve this, Slow Food encourage short supply chains that directly link the producer with the consumer wherever possible and support education to promote the flavour and taste of local produce.  For further information visit

About Jim's contribution to developing Slow Food in Romania
"I am writing to say that starting from February 1st (2011) I will no longer work with Slow Food in Bra (Italy).  I would like to say that it was a pleasure to work with you on the development of Romanian Slow Food all these years, and I thank you for your experience, time, patience and knowledge that you dedicated to make it grow.   You have been a linking point for many years who has helped to achieve the most part of what Slow Food is in Romania today.  I wish you best of luck for the food company project, and I'm very much hoping that our paths will cross again soon.  Best wishes"  Lilia Smelkova, Program Director, Slow Food International

We support this worthy cause by joining the UK Supporters' Group.  This narrow gauge railway used to run from Sibiu to Sighisoara but only the track bed can be seen on the Agnita-Sighisoara section.  This railway served the communities along its length providing them with a means to get their produce to market and was very much part of the working landscape that we are dedicated to preserve.  For further information on the Sibiu-Agnita Railway see
